My last entry, if anyone had the misfortune of seeing it before I privated it, was definitely an exercise in 'check my menstrual calendar before screeching into the void of parasocial interaction'. And, like, I meant everything I said—including my immense sadness at what happened in Vancouver—but definitely was imbalanced in a way I didn't love and don't care to use when expressing myself.

Anyway! Here's a few fun things.

— Buying Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this weekend. I refuse to let you all continue to have fun without me.

— I had to miss bar trivia this past Wednesday due to aforementioned biological assault. My group named their team for the week Team We Miss Jes. ♥ Legend is, I remain a puddle of human delight to this very day.

— I randomly signed up to write a pinch hit for caseficexchange and I'm excited to write it! Hopefully producing 3k+ of [redacted] fic will be the kick in the pants I need to return to my Be Gay And Do Crimes larger fic for the same canon. I'm glad I committed to something with a meatier word count after basically doing the bare minimum for AA FMK and Phoenix Down.

— I've been taking a local improv class for the past few weeks with some friends! I feel like it's kind of a deep cut? But also a form of comedy I really enjoy when done well. (I'll be honest, I wanted to learn more improvisation for if I ever end up DMing again.) Our last session is next week and I'm on the fence about signing up again. I probably will.

— I am really digging S2 of The Last of Us, even though this continues to be a fandom I want no part of. Sure, now you ungrateful fuckers love Abby? I loved her before it was cool! Go step on some legos. 😡 (But yes, definitely recommend it!!)

— The Leafs had a 3-0 lead, managed to blow it spectacularly, and only just crawled out of that pit by winning game six. We're totally going to win the Stanley Cup this time, guys.

— Have my first ever home viewing today. I am on my way to becoming a homeowner!!!!

I'd recommend it! It's a lot of fun. You kind of have to let go of self-consciousness and just deal with yourself; once you can do that, it's just playing games and make-believe.

TLOU: I'm aware of what happens but also like.... have never understood the hate, because I get why to hate on her but at the same time it's SO MUCH, which does boggle the mind. Like I'm sure she's hated more than Sukuna who literally eats babies and shit.

For me, I see it as a huge double standard: Joel mass-murdered a hospital full of people out of love of a daughter-figure, the fans adore him. Abby killed one man out of love of her father; the fans hated her. The only significant difference I can think of is that Joel is conventionally attractive in a gender-appropriate way, and game!Abby had a masculine build. Now that she's played by a conventionally attractive actress (and parts of the fandom are really mad that Ellie's actor isn't classically attractive???? like dudes stop being upset you don't want to fuck the fourteen year old gay girl), they've turned on a dime. It's gross and hypocritical and reminds me why I do not like this fandom.

I think Joel earned his fate and I was never mad about it. Abby makes a lot of sense to me, and she and I bonded when I played the game. Plus TLOU2 does what a sequel is supposed to do, imo: it tells a new story with new stakes. So, yeah.

That makes a lot of sense! I figured that the incel atmosphere of games nowadays has ramped up to the point of absurdity anyway, but the vitrol Ellie's actor has endured is horrible. I feel so bad for them but they are very strong to continue to be headstrong in this role and doing their best to ignore the criticism.
