sea lions screamed at us.

Yesterday, I took a day off from work! The weather ended up being absolutely gorgeous after two straight weeks of rain and atmospheric rivers, so I took a daytrip though downtown and to the Vancouver Aquarium.

(Fun fact about picture upload: I upload them to google drive from my phone, download them onto my laptop, upload them to DW, post them here. It is a silly amount of steps.)

The first place I went to was to see the sea otters. I also grabbed a swirl ice cream cone, which was gigantic and an unnecessary amount of sugar.

You can see larger versions by clicking, and I highly encourage this!

I was also in time for a seal training show, which was very cool. One of them is named Jessica Seal. I like to think she's named after me.

I met my prince.

These happy guys clearly have zero thoughts in their brains and I'm honestly a little jealous. I lingered long enough to watch one of them tip and turn and float the other way. I think it's the most excitement he gets in his happy little life.

That's a tortoise.

Jellies!!!! I actually got to touch one in the wet lab, although obviously I didn't get any pictures. It felt like absolutely nothing, but I did see its shell twitch slightly under the pressure of my pinky. None of them were venomous, fortunately.

Sharks! They're actually quite tiny, roughly the length of my arm. They remind me of puppies.

And, finally, the reason I went there: the axolotl exhibit. There's previously only been one, but I guess they were able to adopt a few more — there were four in their own little enclosures with their pink smiley faces. The exhibit honestly wasn't anything impressive; it was a single room with a few posters, far from the "interactive special exhibit" that was indicated in the emails, but it was still very cool to see multiple!

I did pick up some souvenirs on my way out — a little axolotl stuffed animal for me and one for a friend.

On my way out, a very sweet family asked me to take their picture by the fountain. It was such a nice, wholesome moment.

The weather was so beautiful, I decided to walk the three-and-a-half kilometres back to the metro station. I clung to the seaside and enjoyed the view of the mountains and crisp sky on the incredibly beautiful day.

I can't imagine ever living anywhere other than Vancouver.

I made it home at around 5PM, and caught this absolutely gorgeous sunset: the skyline was a very deep red. Pictures didn't do it justice. I made myself a cup of tea, curled up on the balcony, and watched until the sky was dark. After that, I fell asleep on the couch watching The Pitt. (Entry coming? Maybe! Who wants to read about my Mel&Langdon feelings?)

It was a really nice day — it was one where I felt I'd earned my tiredness by the end of it, which is such a good feeling.
